Alternative London & Bedfordshire wedding photographer – 2016 highlights

2016 – what a crazy, bittersweet, amazing 12 months!

This was a year of adventure & connection during which I captured 107 shoot projects (including 39 weddings), photographed weddings & couples in 9 different countries, pushed myself to the extreme creatively & travelled further than ever before. I’ve explored Burma, Thailand, Iceland, Ibiza, Italy, Scotland, Germany, Sweden & Bali this year & in every travel adventure I want to experience more. This world is a wonderful place! And my goodness I’ve been photographer for some brilliant weddings – pagan handfasting ceremonies, elopements, weddings in parents’ back gardens, tipi weddings, outdoor weddings in the woods, & at some beautiful venues include Keeper & the Dell, South Farm, Ardoch, Milling Barn, York House in London, Hazelwood Castle, Silchester House, The Londesborough in Hackney, Horwood House, St John, Bay Tree Hotel, Spring Hill Barn & so many more than I can link here. I’ve also learned to drive this year & passed my test, plus guided my 15-yr-old son through his first year of GCSEs. Phew! Hand-on-heart, this was one of my best years to date & I’m extremely thankful for every opportunity & every person that was a part of it!

On a personal note, at the beginning of the year my baby niece Lily was born & shortly afterwards we sadly lost my Granda. It is in losing those we love that our photographs of them become utterly priceless. A good photograph will hold a tangible memory – you can hear them laugh, you can feel their warmth & it is in those memories that they will live on & smile down at you. This year I focused even more on the connections at weddings, on the family relationships, the couples’ dynamics & the truth in each wedding day story. Because it is love that matters, ultimately. Whenever I hit ‘send’ on a wedding gallery & hear back the words ‘we are crying, the photographs show the EMOTION of our wedding, how our day FELT, who we really are’ then I know I have photographed authentically & understood what is important.

Below is a (rather large) selection of highlights from my year. I began compiling this post 2 weeks ago & viewed 40,000 images with an initial shortlist of 1,988. It was so hard to whittle down the numbers as every photograph is precious & holds a little piece of my heart! I kept asking myself ‘what story do I want to tell?’ ‘how do I want to show I love what I do, that capturing my couples’ stories is as important to me as it is to them?’. I could have shown all the funny moments or all the quirky things that happen during a wedding day but in the end what I have decided to show is Connection – honest, raw, authentic, truth, love – to bring it back to each couple & the reason for marriage. I’ve thrown in a few of my travel photographs for good measure – moments that made me stop & stare in wonder before I captured the sight in a frame, for ever.

This is an concise as I could make it… a whole year of goosebumps, smiles, stomach butterflies, tears, tens of thousands of miles, countless 2am nights editing & lots & lots of coffee! I hope you enjoy the way that I capture love.

What does 2017 hold? Weddings all over England, Scotland & Wales, travel to Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Iceland, Rome (for the 4th time – what a magical place!), Mallorca, France & NYC so far & I’m hoping to add to that list.

If you are planning your wedding or elopement in 2017 or 2018, either in the UK or any of the places mentioned above, or indeed anywhere else in the world then I would love to be your photographer… Please do get in touch here. Nx
