Bride Lia got in touch with me 9 months before her and fiancé Aaron’s Hackney Town Hall wedding in London – ‘The theme is relaxed and this will be the same for the photos… Nothing too formal and posed. We’re having our ceremony at Hackney Town Hall and then a reception at photography studio in Hackney. If the weather is nice we’ll walk from the Town Hall to the studios, through London Fields.’ Well, the weather was indeed nice and the newlyweds did walk to their reception venue following their Hackney Town Hall wedding, with Lia looking gorgeous in a Jenny Packham wedding dress and her hair in a ponytail. So stylish and elegant!

Lia and her bridesmaids got ready at the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green, which is a firm favourite of mine, and they all travelled to Hackney Town Hall in a route master double-decker bus. Relaxed London weddings like this are always a joy to photograph, especially when they’re ultimately about having a fun party with family and friends. I love Lia and Aaron’s take on the cake cutting, with a croque-en-bouche by Boulangerie Jade Ltd – such a fun alternative which they smashed as their guests cheered on!
